 +++ TODAY IN HISTORY – APRIL 27TH +++

At 10:06 am on April 27, 1989 -- 25 years ago today -- our founder, Konosuke Matsushita, passed away. He was 94 years old. His lifelong goal, from starting his own business at 23 and realizing his true mission at 37, was simply the pursuit of social prosperity and happiness for people.

Mr. Yokoo, who was then the director of the Matsushita Memorial Hospital,... was the last to speak with the founder. This was on April 20, a week before he breathed his last. As Director Yokoo went to insert a tube in his trachea, Yokoo told him "I'm going to put this tube down your throat now. Please be patient." On hearing this, the founder said, in a rasping voice, spoke up: "I'm the one who should be saying please." These were his last words.

"His concern for the other person even when so severely ill says everything about him," said Yokoo as he recalled the time. The founder was born on November 27, 1894, in Wasamura Village on the banks of the Kinokawa River in Wakayama Prefecture. He set up his own business, Matsushita Electric Housewares Manufacturing Works, in 1918, at the age of 23. Fourteen years after that, at the age of 37, he became aware of his true mission.

After deep thought, he was gripped with the mission of banishing poverty and achieving prosperity both in the material and spiritual terms. Our current brand slogan of "A Better Life, A Better World" is firmly rooted in this sense of mission of our founder.

From that point on, our founder worked toward the goal of prosperity. His method of doing so was not limited to the business of Matsushita Electric; he went beyond the boundaries of an ordinary entrepreneur, setting up the PHP Institute (1946) and the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management (1980).

On April 27, and on May 5, the Foundation Day of our company, we as employees hope to find something of inspiration in the founder's determination and efforts to reflect upon who they are now and what they wish to be in the future. As part of this, the Konosuke Matsushita Museum is holding a special exhibition entitled "Konosuke Matsushita's Purpose -- A Better Life, A Better World." If you have the opportunity to visit Osaka, certainly take the chance to come and look at the exhibition.

PANASONIC TECHDAY AT LIBS
April 2014 - Wiesbaden/Germany

LIBS is the leading and largest educational association of the Swiss machine, electrical and metal industries (MEM). With four locations it offers basic and advanced education in technical and commercial professions. 90 employees of libs have one goal: to train 1’000 young people - so that they are successful entrepreneurs in their profession.

Panasonic Switzerland has been given the opportunity to present their Laser Marker Systems. During this exiting Tech Day, technical staff of Panasonic provided an insight into the technology behind a Laser Marker and what it can do. 34 students were able to have a ‘hands-on’ experience, since they were required to program and run the Laser Marker themselves.

We had a fantastic day with the young professionals. It needed only a short introduction into the technology and the interest and engagement among the students was really high. It became evident how easy the students learned to handle the equipment. We have been impressed by their skill level.

And, on the next day already we agreed to have another Tech Day next year. We from Panasonic Switzerland are looking forward to it. Thank you, LIBS, for a great day!

LED LANTERN WORKSHOP IN HEDEL, THE NETHERLANDS

March 2014 - Hedel/The Netherlands

On March 20th Panasonic held an LED Lantern Workshop at the primary school De Pollenhof with 21 5th graders. It was remarkable that the children were really interested in the information. They responded very well to the questions and asked questions themselves.

After the presentation, the children could experience how much energy needs to be generated to have LED fluorescent light and a normal light bulb lit. They had fun and did much effort to have all three light sources lit.

In the following workshop, the kids learnt how to assemble LED lanterns and step by step the class built lanterns themselves. The children enjoyed to make the lanterns and were proud and happy with the nice end results! During a small quiz at the end, we awarded the winner with a Panasonic earphone.

We are thrilled that the LED workshop was thus educational, fun and appreciated by the children and the teacher.

FIRST PLACE IN GERMAN BUSINESS FOUNDER AWARD FOR STUDENTS

July 2013 - MEG Design won first price with support from Panasonic

After having presented the fictitious company MEG Design in the beginning of May, only one week later the finished business concept was handed in. This was developed in close cooperation with Panasonic in Hamburg.

On June 7th, during the local award ceremony for Krefeld, MEG Design won the 1st place with their touch-remote control MYCO out of a total of 20 teams. Now, they have also received their rankings on the other levels: In the Savings Banks and Giro Association of the Rhineland they have achieved the 11th, in North Rhine-Westphalia the 13th and on a national level the 38th rank out of a total of 1060.

At the local award ceremony, MEG Design have given a presentation and presented MYCO to a wide audience. The idea caught on very well. As 9th gradeers, our students still have to survive a long „drought“ bevor they can conquer the busienss world as entrepreneurs with their ideas.

The film team, which accompanied the students in Hamburg, created a short documentary on the business founder award which is now available on the internet. Please click on the link below to view the movie.

Panasonic congratulates the MEG team and is excited to continue supporting young talents in the future!!

JP MORGAN CHASE CORPORATE CHALLENGE

June 2013 - Frankfurt/Germany

This year almost 70,000 runners from nearly 3,000 companies participated and raised around 250,000 Euros for sport activities of people with disabilities. 110 runners from Panasonic companies in Wiesbaden and Langen helped to make this event a success.
Frankfurt 12.06.2013: : Finally the sun is here! The last weeks were so rainy in all Europe, and even if this part of Germany (Frankfurt - Hessen) was "less damaged" by the floods, it is warming the heart of all runners participating in this big event under an almost full, clear blue sky.

Whether erudite or aesthete, you can experience the excitement and curiosity of the runners just by entering the big Grüneburgpark in the center of the town.

Tents, tables, benches and of course the barbecue were already installed in the afternoon at Panasonic's booth.

30 minutes later the first Panasonic runners do not cross the "Finish" but the "Start" line! Wearing this year's T-Shirt with the new brand slogan "A better life, A better world", our around "110 ambassadors" proudly represent the company.

As the prime Minister of the State Hessen said "Participants experience far more than just a simple competition along the 5.6 kilometer track - team spirit, fairness and colleagueship are at the center of attention."

Yes, feeling the good vibrations! Madonna sang "Music makes the people come together" but what about Sport!

8:30pm: the heart of Frankfurt City is almost empty, pumping out like a blood through an artery, thousands of single beating hearts, on the street of the financial capital of Europe.

The best runners arrive early back at the booth: "How was it? What's your time?" are the first questions sounding alongside applauses and congratulations.
"Jetzt geht es um die Wurst": During the times when German villages held local competitions the first prize were usually sausages (Wurst). Nowadays an expression meaning: it's now or never! Give now your best and you will win the prize. And this is what it is all about today:

After the effort, a Wurst of Frankfurt!

The huge park is now alight with barbecues, where all are winners and are enjoying their recompense: the "Wurst", steaks, vegetable spits, salads, and a multitude of cool refreshments to rehydrate their bodies.

10:00pm: When the last fires are gradually dying down, the first seated guests leave the table and the park while others stay a bit longer to tidy up.

Later the trees and their feathered sleeping tenants will retrieve their peaceful place, while at home the lights will be switched off. Heads will fall onto feathered pillows and eyes will close, perhaps dreaming of "A better life, A better world".
